I depend heavily on consumer ratings from individuals on Amazon, so I don’t always do my part to support the community with my ratings. Some products, like screw drivers, hooks, etc., are difficult to provide an in-depth rating; that is, it either works or it doesn’t. Very rarely do I find a product that just blows me away. Let me regress for a second. Whenever I am looking for a product on Amazon, I almost always look at the consumer ratings. Initially, I do not critically review the ratings, I just look at the ratio between the 5s and the 1s. If the number of 5s relative to the 1s is high, I assume the product is decent. If the ratio is low, if still interested in the product, I will delve a little deeper.Until I purchased Diversey Oven and Grill Cleaner, I had tried a bunch of other products. Easy Off, Goo Gone Grill Cleaner, Zep Heavy-Duty Oven and Grill Cleaner, Carbona 2-in-1 Oven Rack and Grill Cleaner. Simple Green, carburetor cleaner, as well as some DIY concoctions. All these did alright; however, I would end up going through most of the can before the grill and grate were clean. The only product that I felt did a very good job, and much better than the products listed, was Carbon-Off Aerosol. The product is very expensive, so Only when I really need it do I splurge and buy it.Fast forward to yesterday. I have a portable stainless-steel grill from Cuisinart that I cleaned about a month ago. The carbon was baked on. I sprayed it down with Easy Off, but it only made a small dent in the carbon. I ended up having to take the grill apart and cleaning what I could and soaking smaller parts in a vinegar solution to loosen up the remaining carbon. I used Carbon-Off on hard to clean areas. It was a two-day ordeal, working on the grill a couple hours here and there. So yesterday, I decided the grill was needing another cleaning, so I sprayed the grill with Easy Off and allowed it to soak for about 8 hours. I tried removing the baked-on carbon using a wire brush, but it just didn’t do a very good job. The Easy Off had dried and was no longer effective. I had just received a box from Amazon containing the Diversey Oven and Grill Cleaner. I had purchased the product, which I had never heard of before, based on an online review from an organization I can’t even remember the name. That evening, I sprayed the grill with enough Diversey Oven and Grill Cleaner to cover the grate and other parts of the grill with a thick layer of the product. When I sprayed the grill, it appeared to have a bubbling action. I forgot about the grill until 12 hours later and was worried that the product would have dried like Easy Off. It hadn’t. It was still very moist. I took a rag (not a wire brush) and the carbon just wiped off. I was amazed. I had never seen a product work as well as this one did. I sprayed the underside of the grate and other parts of the grill and let it soak for about four hours, and I got the same results. Incredible. Granted, there are still areas that will need a heavier cleaning, not that many. Also, while some of the caked-on grease was not removed the first time, it was not hard and dry, which has been the results from other cleaners. I am thoroughly impressed with the product and was in awe during the whole cleaning process. I can’t say enough positive things about it.I decided to go back to the reviews for the product. I didn’t have to read the 5s, since I knew exactly what was conveyed. I reviewed the 1s, since I could not believe anyone would be that dissatisfied with the product. Consumers that rated the product a 1 did so because they couldn’t remove the top of the container. In their defense, the cap was difficult to remove, almost impossible; however, I reread the top of the cap, and realized that you needed to press the sides of the cap and turn. Once I did that, I could remove the cap easily with my weaker had. Some commented on the odor. The odor is strong but no stronger than Easy Off. I can’t understand how someone could rate a product a 1 because of their inability to remove the top. My suggestion is to remove the top with any means possible and do not put it back on. I have numerous paint cans without tops. I lose them all the time. Plus, the top has nothing to do with the effectiveness of the product. I assume that people just don’t care how a 1 rating for purchasing a product with an extremely tight-fitting cap impacts the manufacturer. Some commented that the product didn’t work as well as others, such as Easy Off. I don’t know what they were doing wrong, since this product is way more effective than others that I have tried. My suggestion would be to let it set for 4-6 hours for grills with heavy, baked-on grease and carbon. Don’t worry that the product will dry up, since that did not happen to me. I think you will be more than satisfied with the product, unless, of course, you can’t remove the cap.
