I picked this electric grill in the hope it would transfer heat to the food on the grill better than other options. Most all of the competitors have intervening sheet metal over the heating coils, and heavy metal grills (Teflon coated or other miracle nonstick surfaces - which really aren't as time goes by and end up in one's digestive tract) which, if my reading of the laws of thermodynamics is correct, just act as heat sinks, absorbing heat which would be better spent heating the food. If it was a frying pan I wanted I'd just use my black steel saute pans on my Blodgett commercial range. This unit is all stainless steel, easy to clean, and allows for maximum heat transfer to the food. While it does better than its competitors in this, it is not going to sear a steak in short order - it just is not hot enough. A steak will take about half an hour to reach medium rare. But, this is not why I took a flyer on it - I wanted to make marinated lamb chops and eggplant on it (without going outdoors in the depths of winter), which it did to my satisfaction. About 10 minutes per side on the eggplant and the same for lambchops. It will not melt or burn all the fat off the chops like a outdoor charcoal grill will, but it will lightly brown the chops and cook them to the desired rareness. It is also useful for fish, kabobs, possum tenders, etc. Be aware the dial does not correlate to anything other than the imagination of some designer in the Middle Kingdom - it is essentially an on/off device - the coils stay lit continuously when one positions the dial anything past the lowest settings. Overall, I am pleased.The drip pan supplied is not made for this unit it rests tilting fluids to drip out the side. No temperature control just turns on at highest setting. Not smoke free as the drippings drop directly on element and smokes enough to set off my smoke detectors every time. It is easy to clean.This little grill really heats up and cook. It is an easy clean as well. If the cord was a little longer it would be a 5 star.This is an unsafe product to attempt to clean. It has sharp edges all the way around. Also, trying to deal with the seller is like being on a merry go round, except it's not too merry! All you will get is the run around as they try to wear you down. I will never consider purchasing anything from this seller again!The power to this grill did not come on, they wanted me to send them a video showing power not working which I did, they then wanted me to take the grill apart and show them the wiring.
