They are the perfect size and the perfect thickness. Depending on how you use it, either two or four layers thick of sturdy fabric, plus a layer of quilted insulation on the inside. Perfect for handling hot and/or heavy items without sacrificing dexterity.There is a pocket if you want to use it, but it works fine just wrapped around a pan or handle as well. Perfect for my average-sized hands, but should be as good for larger or smaller hands.The terry inside is soft, but the cotton outside is easy to clean and doesn't scorch easily.Great for use as hot mitt, hot mat, or pot holder.Quite durable and well made. I've had them for several months now, and no sign of wear or loose stitching. I could see the hanging loop coming unstitched at some point, but if so it would be easy to fix.Pity they're made in China.I purchased the Gourmet Classics Solid Black Oven Mitts (4) to replace similar mitts that I had used for years. The original mitts were much thicker and kept the heat off my hands. THe new ones, although adequate, could be thicker for security in handling hot items in the oven.Nice size, but difficult to grab items from the item due to the bulkynessI can feel heat through it as soon as I grab the grill basket. Everyone else likes this item--my grill basket must be extra hot.I haven't burned myself using this mitt but I did notice some heat transfer. All in all it works just fine.The quality of Gourmet Classics mitts continues. These are just as well padded and well made as the ones I purchased many years ago and am still using.These are nice and over sized just like I wanted. They are not the small potholders and these can be used as a mit as well! Love them!Wash nicely and are easy to slide on and off and well enough padded for lifting in and out hot dishes.
